You've probably noticed that I have not updated this website in too long. Sure - I've been busy with moving. But I've settled in now - why have I not touched devcey's homeground for two months?
Currently devcey's homeground - my personal website to share various things on - is hosted via Neocities. Hence the "devcey.neocities.org" domain. To put it simply: I'm planning to change that. Over the last couple months I've been looking at hosting my own website and acquiring a domain for this and more. I've now got the resources for this. I'm still busy looking for offers and will wait if I may find a cheaper one via some sale.
But what are the reasons for this?
So in this imitation of the website I've finally added this section for "blogs". I'm not entirely sure if the free plan allows for all things related to PHP, databases (for the blogs and their tags) and it certainly doesn't allow for audio files, meaning I need YouTube embeds. Nothing really comes together with the blog posts - everything theyre referenced to I add everywhere manually. And this sort of held me back from writing these. Theres so many blog posts I've wanted to write, but I've simply not had the motivation for it because I was unhappy about the structure. You would've gotten a post about my study trip to Rome in July, a post about me denouncing Vodafone and others.
Sure, theres the Neocities Supporter plan I could go for. However that ties into my next point...
If I were to grab a server somewhere I could do more than just webhosting. I could setup an Email server, a TeamSpeak server (bet ya haven't heard of that in a while), and others. It gives me flexibility and teaches me these things by setting them up myself. I'd rather want to rely on someone im grabbing the servers from and myself, rather than only Neocities.
I'm putting devcey's homeground on hold for now. That means I'll probably not touch this for a while. Could be another couple months. But I will be back under a new domain on some server. Until then, I'll keep this online.
A new homeground (which I should really give a codename, let's just call it Flareon) would probably stay close design wise, but I want it to be more flexible. I'll most likely try to figure out a way to add proper mobile support. And I'll most likely add a top bar similar to a window bar style-wise. From there you'll get your global navigation and potentially even theming stuffs (light/dark mode?). It's all still very hypothetical and we may end up elsewhere. But thank you for reading!! I'm still online and I'm still doing lots of stuff and this won't change for now, even with work and vocational school.
Anyway. I wrote this within like 10 minutes. It's also late. Good night.
